John teaches private lessons to students in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. If you live in the area you can study with one of the world's foremost acoustic guitar teachers! The only prerequisites are owning a guitar and having a strong desire to learn.
John has taught private guitar lessons since 1966 and has developed loads of materials and bits of wisdom over the years to share with his students. He is very patient and accommodating and will teach people at any level so long as they are dedicated to improving their knowledge and skills and are willing to keep a regular practice schedule.
As a concert artist John specializes in fingerstyle solo guitar playing. He also has had a lot of experience in bands, in the studio and at church playing accompaniment behind singers. He is a world class player, writer and arranger and is proficient in reading and writing tab, notes and chord charts.
The styles of music that John is most known for include the Chet Atkins fingerstyle, early jazz ballads and swing tunes, the bossa nova, folk fingerpicking and church music. He has written and published many books, tab, CDs and DVDs that teach his fingerstyle arrangements and he has traveled nationwide teaching his Praise Guitar Workshop seminars as well as appearing at annual guitar conventions, etc.
